SUBJECT AREA: Electricity[br]b. 22 Jan 1775 Lyon, Franced. 10 June 1836 Marseille, France[br]French physicist and mathematician who established laws and principles relating magnetism and electricity to each other.[br]Ampère was reputed to have mastered all the then-known mathematics by the age of 12. He became Professor of Physics and Chemistry at Bourg in 1801 and a professor of mathematics at the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris in 1809. Observing a demonstration in 1820 of Oersted's discovery that a magnetic needle was deflected when placed near a current-carrying wire, Ampère was inspired to investigate the subject of electricity, of which he had no previous experience. Within a week he had prepared the first of several important communications on his discoveries to the Academy of Sciences in Paris. Included was a new hypothesis formed on the basis of his experiments on the relation between electricity and magnetism. He investigated the forces exerted on each other by current-carrying conductors and the properties of a solenoid. В случае относительно быстрого разряда аккумулятора применяется более удобное понятие – мощность отдаваемая батареей при разряде до определенного порогового значения напряжения за определенный период времени.

A figure indicating battery capacity, generally defined for 5, 10 or 20 Hours discharge time.
AH figure should be divided by the discharge time to get the maximal discharge current.
The AH capacity is a function of discharge time, decreasing at short backup times.
Thus, 20H rated 10AH battery, may supply only 3.5AH for 15 minutes or 2.5AH for 5 minutes.
Battery capacity also depends on temperature, aging, number and depth of discharge cycles, and preventive maintenance.

Емкость аккумулятора зависит от температуры электролита: чем ниже температура, тем меньше подвижность частиц электролита и емкость аккумулятора. Повышение температуры способствует увеличению емкости аккумуляторов. Однако при температуре +40 'С происходит коробление положительных пластин и резко увеличивается саморазряд аккумуляторов.
Поэтому в аккумуляторных помещениях должна поддерживаться температура не ниже +15'С и не выше +35 'С.
Емкость аккумулятора в течение срока его службы не остается постоянной. В начале эксплуатации происходит дополнительное образование активных масс на пластинах аккумулятора и его емкость увеличивается до 130% номинального значения. При дальнейшей эксплуатации емкость аккумулятора снижается из-за выкрашивания активной массы положительных пластин. Снижение емкости до 80—75 % номинального значения принято считать окончанием срока службы аккумулятора.

Максимальный электрический ток, который проводник способен проводить в продолжительном режиме без превышения его установившейся температурой определённого значения.
Допустимый длительный ток является одной из основных характеристик проводника. Он представляет собой максимальный электрический ток, который проводник может проводить длительно (неделями, месяцами, годами) не перегреваясь. Значение допустимого длительного тока зависит от сечения проводника, материалов из которых выполнены проводник и его изоляция, способов монтажа проводника в электроустановке здания. Допустимый длительный ток проводника фактически является его номинальным током. В электроустановках зданий выполняют защиту проводников от сверхтоков, протекание которых по проводникам сопровождается их перегревом.
